Aled Powys Williams

Aled is a vocal animateur and has been part of the CânSing team since 2012.

A native of the Amman Valley, he is a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, during which time he was awarded several scholarships.

Aled is a Classical Brit Award Winner and former member of Only Men Aloud who won BBC’s Last Choir Standing competition, he also has a number of successful album releases.

He has toured extensively across the UK, Europe and America. His vocal versatility has led him to perform oratorio, opera through to musical theatre, swing and jazz. Theatre credits include Dan Cairo in Carmen (Dolman Theatre); Billy in The Calling of Maisy Day (Wales Millennium Centre): Dewi in The Hidden Valley (St. George’s, Bristol); Godfrey in The Archaeoligists Wife (Bute Theatre);

 Jesus in Godspell (Blakehay Theatre); Morgan James in My Lands Shore (Rose and Crown Theatre): Prince Charming in Cinderella (Camberley Theatre): Aladdin in Aladdin (Riverfront Theatre).

Radio and television credits include Friday Night is Music Night, Later...with Jools Holland, Last Night at the Proms and Noson Lawen. Other highlights include performing at the Royal Variety Performance (London Palladium), the Opening Gala (Wales Millennium Centre), 2010 Ryder Cup Opening Concert (Millennium Stadium) and performing alongside Michael Sheen in the World Premiere of ‘Mr. Dahl’ (St. David’s Hall), a special commission celebrating the life of the Welsh novelist. Most recently, he has been touring with the vocal quartet The 4Tunes.

Alongside his performing, Aled is an accomplished vocal animateur and choral conductor. He has worked extensively for various organizations such as British Council, The Aloud Charity, ABC of Opera, CaST Cymru, BBC and Welsh National Opera. Projects range from song writing, vocal workshops to fully staged productions. Aled was privileged to conduct Only Boys Aloud alongside Katherine Jenkins for the finale of the Coronation Festival at Buckingham Palace.
